The third season of MTV’s surprise hit Jersey Shore premiered on Thursday night, and as expected, there’s already plenty of drama as cast members jostle for camera time. But this year, MTV’s phenomenon is more than just a reality show — it’s a branding machine, the launchpoint for retail ventures by every single cast member. It’s only logical that Snooki and her brood launch product lines — the show has made bona fide stars out of the group, with 8.45 million people tuning in to watch the show’s premiere.
By now, all of the Shore-ites have put their names and faces behind products. But some are handling their branding and marketing far better than others. In the self-promotion department, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino takes top marks: The 28-year-old former underwear model has a ton of gigs lined up. He appeared on Dancing With the Stars, “wrote” a book, came out with an app and a workout DVD…and the list goes on.
