Stacy Bendet’s inspiration for her enchantment-themed show.
Dragging editors away from Lincoln Center’s runway ground zero seems to be the name of the game for Fall/Winter 2014 Fashion Week. Alexander Wang is making the most noise by holding his show at the Navy Yard in Brooklyn (granted, he’s Uber-ing people in with vouchers for the car service), and Diane Von Furstenberg and Michael Kors, mainstays at the tents, surprised everyone by deciding to move off-site this week. For her presentation on Monday evening, Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia is likewise taking an alternate route, albeit one necessitated by the form of the show itself.
Bendet is holding her show at The McKittrick Hotel, site of the lauded, long-running immersive play Sleep No More, based on Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The Fall/Winter 2014 Alice + Olivia will be presented in keeping with the play, with models throughout the building acting out different pieces of a Grimms-style fairy tale that Bendet devised herself. Unlike Sleep No More, editors and buyers will not be asked to wear masks.
Phil Mossman, an original member of LCD Soundsystem who scored Out of Sight, Another Earth, and Ocean’s Eleven, wrote an original soundtrack for the piece. Or, the fashion show. We’re not really sure what to call it. No matter — whichever the proper category it falls into, this is a Fashion Week presentation bringing art into fashion in an especially substantial way.
