Patagonia, maker of outdoor wear designed to last, is skipping Black Friday this year. The brand still expects to lure shoppers, however, albeit those of a more frugal, quality-committed mindset. The company is throwing the Black Friday Worn Wear Party at 15 of its stores across the U.S., beginning at 4 pm on Friday.
The event, held in partnership with iFixit, a global community which teaches users how to repair everything from iPhones to clothes (of course), will feature films and beer in addition to repair clinics. Attendees are encouraged to bring their old threads to learn how to repair them and generally extend their shelf life.
Sounds way more ultimately civilized than getting elbowed in the face while trying to buy a new, unnecessary puffy coat. Also, as wonderful an idea as it might be, this is one Black Friday event that probably won’t be plagued by a frenzied crowd. That said, if you can’t make it, take advantage of the Patagonia-iFixit partnership online with their free repair manuals for old gear.
