Thanks to Net-a-Porter, You Can Dress Like a Hunger Games Character to Go See the Hunger Games

Capitol Couture by Trish Summerville

Ah, the intersection of tween literature and luxury clothing…wait.  This is an intersection no one has crossed before.  Net-a-Porter, usually at the vanguard of such things, will do so on Thursday, with the launch of a new 19-piece Hunger Games-inspired collection.  If you live in a major city and take advantage of the site’s same-day Premier delivery, you’ll even be able to deck yourself out appropriately for Catching Fire‘s opening night a day later.

Hunger Games Net-a-Porter clothing line

Capitol Couture by Trish Summerville, the line created by the films’ costume director, looks like an urban take on the books’ futuristic, over-the-top fashion worn by the story’s wealthy oppressors.  (Guess designing for the flip side would have been too…”derelicte.”)  There’s definitely more fashion than science fiction to the looks, which include leather bomber jackets and shimmery, hard-edged party dresses.  It’s a pretty good collection — the (maybe) new zeitgeist of film and fashion crossover collaborations is off to a good start with this one.

We’re down to let Capitol Couture give our closet a little dystopian push.  With prices starting around $100, this is also a more broadly accessible Net-a-Porter collaboration than past instances.  That, or maybe they’re really trying to appeal to the tweens for whom the books were originally intended.
