Ready for the Holidays, TOMS Launches a Socially Conscious Marketplace

TOMS, the ultimate promoter of the one-for-one business model, is giving back in yet another way.  The ethical shoemaker debuted Marketplace today, an online bazaar of about 30 different socially conscientious brands.

The vetted, early-stage companies sell everything from toothpaste (Jessica Alba’s The Honest Company) to bikes (Charity: Water) and prices at the Marketplace range from $5 to five hundred dollars.  The separate department to the rest of the TOMS site will be open through the holidays.  Since you can shop by cause or region of impact — say, a scarf, hat, or even a wine holder that specifically benefit a Ugandan initiative — it should be easy to tick of gifts for everyone on your list, based on a recipient’s particular cause or interest.

The Marketplace also editorializes all the brands it carries, so it’s a great way to learn more about the founders and causes of companies you may already know, like Liya Kebede’s Lemlem, along with those you don’t, like Same Sky, which offers handmade jewelry made by women recently released from prison and given artisan training by the company.
