Earlier this year spring, Prada called for submissions from aspiring essayists on the topic of lenses and how they filter reality. Dame Vivienne Westwood is now asking young poets for their best work on a less esoteric topic: climate change.
The Climate Revolutionary Project, an initiative partly helmed by Westwood, is working with YouYou Mentoring, a UK-based creative youth organization, to host the competition. Five winners, between 17 and 21 years old, will be chosen to participate in a series of master classes, record their poems, and be documented in a film.
Westwood is asking her young poets to write their poems in a way that relates to her mantra, “buy less, choose well, make it last.” So this literary project probably isn’t the venue for climate change deniers to creatively voice their doubt. For everyone else, the poetry contest is open to London-based writers until June 24th.
