Tee shirts, shoes, generic beauty samples…we’re tired of monthly subscription services offering us the basics. Instead, we looked around for five useful yet unusual of-the-month membership sites offering more specific wares. Check out some subscription services, for better style, eating, and drinking:
Angel Beauty Box: This $20 monthly subscription beauty box is awesome because it's geared toward women of color and their specific skin and haircare shades, types, and needs. A series of questions to answer at sign-up helps the company send its members personalized, relevant samples and full-sized products, from both established and emerging brands.
Tasting Room by Lot18: Lot18, the online wine discounter, sets its monthly delivery service apart by kicking off membership with a tasting of multiple mini bottles of wine. You rate your favorites, and the company generates a profile for you based on something called WinePrint™ technology. They'll use that to send you appropriate full-size shipments from there on out. It's online personalization at its best, and the tasting is a mere ten bucks.
Sample Society: This beauty sampling service created by Beauty Bar is the only one out there, that we're aware of, with roots in the real world. (Beauty Bar operates an actual shop in the Americana Manhassett Mall). Besides that, the monthly service sets itself apart with the inclusion of a scaled down issue of Allure and a $15 credit toward a full-sized purchase in every box -- that's a pretty good deal considering each month itself only costs $15 in the first place.
Five Four Club: This men's style service combines a few e-commerce trends: an automatic, set price ($60) monthly delivery, pre-discounted clothing (everything they send is up to 75% off retail), and online customization. Guys fill out a style profile and enter their sizes to receive a monthly selection of four of five items tailored to their needs. They can easily exchange what doesn't work.
Pizza of the Month Club: Yes, this represents a departure from the rest of the list. But we love Pizza of the Month Club because it combines everything awesome: it's been around since 1994, it offers classic pizza delivery, albeit in a modern way, and it's delicious. All pizzas come from the Chicago Pizzeria, which was founded in 1947. For $64.95 a month, this is a sort of funny-but-amazing way to keep your freezer stocked.
