Forget the high-low collaboration — in another win for the guys, Mr Porter, Net-a-Porter’s men’s arm, is launching a series of curated, limited-edition lines with a number of the site’s top designers. The luxe-luxe capsule collections will roll out on a staggered schedule through the spring.
While it’s the norm for upscale multi-brand retailers to get exclusive rights to certain pieces from a designer’s collection, Mr Porter is going a step farther by having different brands from the around the globe develop unique ranges just for them. Those on board include the Japanese cult brand Beams Plus and the Parisian line Ami, both launching May 14, Raf Simons on May 28, and our New York fave, Alexander Wang, on June 4. A few unnamed British designers will be also be offering exclusives on the site to coincide with the showing of the London Collections: Men next month.
With luxury men’s wear growing faster than women’s, Net-a-Porter’s super-exclusives are one way to take advantage of the expanding market. And what fashionisto worth his salt wouldn’t want to get in on extra-rarefied styles from niche designers?
