Yeah yeah, another day, another branded online content launch. However, this one’s worth a look — Rachel Roy debuted “The Life,” which is, yes, a Web-only lifestyle magazine that’s actually pretty fun.
There’s a style component comprising editorial shoots, a “what’s in her bag” feature, and beauty tips. A section entitled “Learn” neatly joins brand history (in the form of an interview with Roy) with cultural content, like a best restaurants list from Nancy Novogrod, the Editor in Chief of Travel + Leisure, plus a cookie recipe from Karlie Kloss, supermodel and, believe it or not, noted baker.
A video section offers runway shows, past Rachel Roy interviews, a trailer about “The Life” itself, and — our favorite part — interviews with female entrepreneurs sharing their personal stories and offering business tips. What we like best, though, is the charitable component, which includes links to buy Roy’s collections that benefit causes like Haitian earthquake relief and charity:water. And, since these features all include photographs from the designer’s time spent in the countries she’s aiding, they also functionally double as a fun-looking series of postcards from Rachel around the world.
And of course, because ultimately the site is supposed to convey the brand’s sense of cool, there are components that are just that. Check the link to a playlist Roy made for Jay-Z, for Fashion Week, and the designer’s spot-on bohemian recommendations for summer festival fashion.
