If women want and can afford looks straight from the runway, why not the red carpet, too? That’s the idea behind virtual trunk show site Moda Operandi’s latest venture, which will let interested buyers make immediate purchases from the ne plus ultra of red carpets — the annual Met Ball gala on May 6.
Forget the forthcoming Shazam for high fashion, Moda Operandi is upping the ante by identifying the stars’ gowns and selling them instantaneously. What we want to know is how they managed to pull off coalescing the capsule collection, since celebs are notorious for changing their minds last minute (anyone remember that horrible pink dress Anne Hathaway wore to this year’s Oscars, for fear of being dressed too similarly to Amanda Seyfried?).
For MO aficionados who aren’t in the market for gala-ready dresses, the virtual trunk show site is launching another Met Ball-related collection, this one corresponding to the actual show at the Met’s Costume Institute. In celebration of Punk: Chaos to Couture, MO will offer a range of pieces from designers like Balmain, Thom Browne, and Vivienne Westwood, along with actual vintage punk pieces. It’ll be just about the opposite of the new red carpet collection, and launch on May 2.
