Until now, online styling services — particularly those for guys — have been the provenance of techie start-ups. Trunk Club, Bespoke Post, etc., were all born on the Web. With the advent of TripleThread, which provides a platform for real-world boutiques to take their in-store services online, we might see a shift in the category of personalized monthly styling, with the service increasingly offered by shops you can actually visit.
Last week, for instance, TripleThread launched a partnership with the upscale Los Angeles boutique Confederacy. The Hollywood-based shop now offers customized monthly men’s wear shipments akin to those from Trunk Club and the myriad women’s sites doing the same thing. Sign up online, fill out a short questionnaire, connect with one of the store’s actual stylists, and start receiving a monthly box of five to ten items meant to suit your sizes and preferences, with prices starting around $150. You get a few days to try everything on, send back what you don’t want, and pay for what you keep.
TripleThread’s platform is typical of the way monthly style services operate, but it’s an interesting alternative to the usual way stores take themselves online (namely, build out e-commerce representing what’s already in store, and that’s that). Confederacy’s new “Trunk” service connects to shoppers more effectively, ensuring, at the very least, monthly engagement and repeat purchases. While there’s no specific indication whether other stores will similarly embrace the monthly style box platform, we expect Confederacy Trunk to meet an enthusiastic audience. The store’s owner, Ilaria Urbinati, is a well-know Hollywood stylist (Bradley Cooper is one of her clients), has worked on various runway shows and commercials, and should have a niche national audience outside of Los Angeles ready to receive regular shipments of approved picks.
Sound appealing? There’s a bonus for our readers: whether you prefer your monthly box of style from a tech start-up or a boutique with an actual front door, a box of new clothes is better with a deal. Our first ten readers to sign up here for Confederacy Trunk will receive $50 off any item they decide to keep.
