The big box retailer and the luxury department store have come together on an unlikely, but awesome, holiday partnership. The companies jointly convinced 24 CFDA designers to create limited-edition items which will be sold at all Targets and Neiman Marcuses, and online, beginning December 1st. In true high-low form, the prices range from $7.99 to $499.99, but most items will be less than sixty dollars.
Designers for the collection, who created one to three items apiece, include Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Altuzarra, Diane von Furstenberg, Jason Wu, Marc Jacobs, Rodarte, Oscar de la Renta and Tory Burch. The 50 items span men’s, women’s, and children’s categories. Both Target and Neiman’s will feature the line in designated in-store shops.
What’s most notable are the different strengths each retailer brought to the table to make this collab possible — Target was able to get the items designed and manufactured through their supply chain, while Neiman’s got the designers to the table in the first place. Ultimately, the Target + Neiman Marcus Holiday Collection is a clear reflection of how consumers buy fashion now, mixing luxury and fast fashion with abandon.
Oh, and last but not least, the collaboration has a charitable angle — the two stores will donate $1 million to the CFDA to celebrate the partnership.
