Here’s a show everyone can enjoy — 11 French lingerie makers are working together to boost exports via a retrospective exhibit covering 100 years of their innovation and design. Apparently high-end undergarments aren’t doing so well domestically, so the lingerie-makers are working to keep a boom going elsewhere in the world.
The labels involved with the exhibit include Aubade, Barbara, Chantelle, Empreinte, Implicite, Lejaby, Lou, Lise Charmel, Passionata, Princesse Tam.Tam, and Simone Pérèle. The show encompasses the development of every undergarment from girdles to tangas, featured alongside audiovisual walls displaying prominent ad campaigns from the past 100 years. Our favorite part of the whole show has got to be the promise of a several-minutes long “transhistoric-holographic striptease.” It’s all in the name of education, of course.
The exhibit opens today and moves on to London, Dubai, and Shanghai after July 26th. If you’re not a resident of any of those cities, you can pick up the eponymous book, Lingerie Française, due out in September.
