Look up the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Basically, what that Act says, is that a warranty cannot be voided just because parts that weren't made by the original manufacturer of the vehicle are installed, but that it has to be proven, in court if necessary, that a specific part caused the failure. If you install a neon light and the transmission goes out, sorry, but the warranty has to cover it, because neon lights and the transmission aren't connected. If you install a neon light, and it isn't installed correctly, then the entire vehicle computer system gets damaged from a power surge or something of that nature, then you are the one paying.

Hi Emily,

Thanks for your article about penny auctions. As you can tell by my commenting name, I am pro-penny auction, but I do understand the risks and disappointments that consumers can ran into as a result of misleading advertising.

At the same time, I want to emphasize that I've won over $12,000 worth of merchandise for less than half the price. In all fairness, that's better than I can do at any retail establishment.

I'd love to answer any questions you might have, even critical questions, because your post reflects that you've investigated the business model.

Thanks for your contribution.
