Is Moda Operandi Making Sydney A Can't-Miss Fashion Week?

Bassike on Moda Operandi

Moda Operandi, the online trunk show paving the way for speedy runway-to-real world fashion access, has turned to Australia for the next big thing.

Bassike is one of 10 Australian labels to be newly featured on exclusive trunk show site Moda Operandi.

Moda Operandi’s founders, Vogue Contributing Editor Lauren Santo Domingo, and Aslaug Magnusdottir, formerly of Gilt Groupe, just launched an “Australia Week” on the site.  Taylor Tomasi Hill, the site’s artistic director, was impressed enough by the most recent Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Sydney to pick up 10 new designers to feature in “Designers from Down Under: a Master Mix.”

For obvious reasons, Sydney isn’t a common stop on the biannual Fashion Week circuit, but the city’s gaining traction. International online buyers ruled the most recent shows’ front rows, and within Sydney itself, instant access to runway fashion is becoming de rigueur.  Now, with industry heavyweights like Santo Domingo and Magnusdottir heading down under, the rest of the fashion tribe probably isn’t far behind them.
