We’re just kidding, sort of — Apple is getting a signature fragrance, though not at the hands of its engineers. An Australian art collective called Greatest Hits has commissioned the scent manufacturer Air Aroma to create a take on an Apple eau de toilette.
Unfortunately, the perfume, created as part of a gallery installation, will be available solely to some art collector with very particular taste. Though the scent will come in a proper diffuser, it’s only going to be sold at Greatest Hits’ upcoming Melbourne exhibition. Still curious what it’ll be like? According to Air Aroma, the item “encompasses the smell of the plastic wrap covering the box [of a MacBook Pro], printed ink on the cardboard, the smell of paper and plastic components within the box and of course the aluminum laptop which has come straight from the factory where it was assembled in China.”
They aren’t joking — the company enlisted their French fragrance lab to come up with the final product. So, is this nod from the art world the ultimate sign of Apple’s hegemony? Even if it wasn’t their doing, being able to get a MacBook Pro up your nose does up the ante on the company’s world domination.
