With e-readers more or less saving magazines, it makes sense publishers are ready to put all their titles in the tablet basket. But who would have expected them to do so so cooperatively? Condé Nast, Hearst, Meredith, News Corp., and Time Inc. have come together on Next Issue Media, where readers can subscribe to and peruse a range of titles at Netflix-style monthly pricing.
Next Issue’s primary purpose is to do away with the need to download multiple apps for multiple titles. Essentially, the new program is a newsstand with consistent magazine interfaces. Within a price range of $1.99 to $14.99, subscribers can purchase individual issues, subscribe to single titles, or get an all-access pass to every one of the 32 available magazines, plus the ones that’ll be joining Next Issue in the near future.
So, which fashion mags are already on the bandwagon? There’s Elle, Glamour, InStyle, and Allure. That’s enough to warrant a $14.99/month unlimited plan right there. Next Issue just launched this week for Android — here’s hoping they get the iPad version approved and released soon.
