Better World Books, a socially conscious online bookseller which has already raised $10 million toward funding global literacy, has just introduced another grassroots initiative. The premise is simple, and reminiscent of effective efforts from companies like TOMS Shoes — for every book they sell either in the U.S. or on their UK site, the company will donate another one to charity.
The specific recipients of the Book for Book program are Feed the Children and Books for Africa. And here’s where the business gets their books in the first place — they’re all sourced from college campus and library book drives that would otherwise send the titles to landfills. Since the initiative is launching just in time for back-to-school, Better World Books is providing a perfect way to stock your fall reading list (or your kids’ reading lists) in a multi-channel, socially responsible way.
