Hells Angels Initiate (Another) Fashion Lawsuit

The Hells Angels could add “zealous litigators” to their list of titles, which includes motorcycle gang and trademarked brand.  This time they’re initiating a lawsuit in San Francisco against Amazon and a Los Angeles-based fashion label, Wildfox, over a t-shirt created by the label and sold through the online retailer.  The t-shirt says “My boyfriend is a Hells Angel” on the front, and is printed with a pair of wings on the back.

The name Hells Angels is trademarked by the Angels, as is their wings-and-skull logo, so it’s a conflict over trademark infringement.  At this point, the Angels are getting to be old hands at defending their name and logo — besides going after Disney and Marvel Comics, they also sued Alexander McQueen, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Zappos for selling McQueen items that illegally used their name and death head design.  The Angels successfully got the items taken out of stores.

If they can take on McQueen, it’s hard to imagine a small L.A. fashion house stands much of a chance.  Guess the lesson at hand is don’t mess with the Hells Angels, even on an ironic t-shirt.
