Weekly High Lows: U.K. Makeup Advertising Gets Retouching Rules

Rimmel fake eyelashes

Highs:

  • The U.K. released some specific guidelines regarding retouching in makeup ads.  It’s about time somebody did!  (Fashionista)
  • Fashion flash-sale site Ideeli is launching plus- and petite-size sales.  Appropriate!  (Racked)
  • The Internet has changed the way fashion PR companies do business  — for one, it’s greatly democratized their approach.  (High Low)

Advertising mascara?  Then don’t show us Kate Moss wearing fake eyelashes.

Lows:

  • Around $14 billion worth of furs were sold in 2010.  Watch your hides, little minkies.  (Glamour)
  • Christian Louboutin is suing Yves Saint Laurent over some red-soled YSL heels.  But…to be fair, the whole shoe is red.  (Telegraph)
  • Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are launching a ‘merch-of-the-month’ style online club.  Maybe fun, but also a little strange.  (High Low)

Maybe YSL’s red sole on this shoe is merely for consistency’s sake?
