Poll: Small Businesses Need Apps to Survive

We said it once and we’ll say it again (and again and again): Mobile apps are one of the most important technologies out there for retail development — particularly for smaller businesses. In a new survey from AT&T, based on questions posed to 2,246 small businesses on their technology use, 38% said they “couldn’t go without” mobile apps.  Nearly three-quarters of the respondents said they used mobile apps for their business — by far the most commonly-used were GPS/navigation and mapping apps, which respondents said saved them time and money.

The dependency on mobile apps comes second only to the need for wireless technology (which includes connections for smartphones, Wi-Fi, and cloud-based services). Wi-fi was used by 96% of respondents, and 64% said they couldn’t survive without it.  Meanwhile, the results indicated a growing number of small businesses are using Facebook, with 41% of respondents saying they had a Facebook page (versus 27% the year before).

So the future is in your phone, or on your tablet.  Is your business ready?
