Marc Jacobs Takes His Runway Show to Facebook

While tickets to the Marc Jacobs show remain some of the most-coveted of Fashion Week, the designer wants everyone to be able to watch — at least anyone with access to the Internet. The Marc Jacobs show at New York Fashion Week has been live-streamed for the past few seasons at live.marcjacobs.com. And yesterday, Jacobs announced via Twitter that he was expanding his coverage, so that viewers can now watch “live on [their] site, Facebook, or your smartphone.” Users must register on his site in order to access the stream.

Jacobs isn’t the only designer further democratizing the fashion week experience via the Internet. Alexander Wang, Betsey Johnson, Calvin Klein and more big names are streaming their shows this year.  Though strangely enough, IMG, the company that organizes New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center, doesn’t host a central dedicated channel for the event — rather, each designer has to figure out his or her own live-streaming strategy.
