Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered whether your outfit really works? There’s now an app for that. Well, actually a crowd-sourcing, social-retailing website called Go Try It On, created by Marissa Evans. Not your average internet entrepreneur, this Harvard business school grad performs around New York City with her improv team Poolside. We follow Evans for a week of meetings and purchases.
“Running around New York City all day in heels and am about to meet a friend for drinks. I decided to pop into Club Monaco to see if they had any cute flats. I spy Havaianas in gold and grab a pair for $18. Then was distracted by a perfect work-to-drinks dress.”
Nadia Pumps, $39, Nine West
“Another day running around town. Meetings uptown and in between meetings I wandered into Nine West. They seemed to be having a sale and I ended up buying a pair of nude work pumps. Something I believe you can never have enough of!”
“Strolling around SoHo mid-afternoon and I saw this amazing Anthropologie necklace. The colors reminded me of the beach, and as I was having brunch the next day with the founder of Charm& Chain so I knew I needed a fun piece she would notice!
“Saw this DVF dress, tried it on, left the store and went back to buy. It was pricy, but I did the shopping math (price divided by the number of times you will wear it) and I think I made a good decision! Her dresses always make me feel sophisticated yet chic. You can’t go wrong.”
Sexy Back Dress by Backstage, $123, Dalaga
Gold and turquoise necklace, free, White T Jewelry
“Made my way to Brooklyn for the afternoon, and wandered into the most delicious Greenpoint boutique, Dalaga! This dress was a must after trying it on. I figured it would be great for a hot night out in New York City or even pairing it with flats for daytime.
“Got this lovely necklace in the mail. It’s my sister, Rebecca Evans new jewelry line, White T Jewelry. Samples are my favorite!”
Gray T-shirt, $20, American Apparel
“This is one of my favorite items of clothing. My T-shirt was a bit ratty and I needed an upgrade! I wear this shirt all the time to grab coffee, to the gym and in the winter under all my sweaters. It’s just one of those basics you fall in love with! (I actually bought two, one for my friend as well!)”
Mike and Ike candy, $3
Wired magazine, $4.99
“Mike and Ike is the perfect summer candy for a hot day. Grabbed a copy of Wired. Had a little down time at a coffee shop and I like to read about all the tech trends of the month. Hard copies of magazines are nice when you want to really go deep into a story!”
Silly Bandz, free
“My friend gave me some fun new Silly Bandz bracelets! They are animals and you can wear them on your wrist. I love this because it’s so simple and cute and reminds me to not forget to be playful and silly throughout the day!”
